Nancy Correia is a Brampton-based, multidisciplinary artist working in illustration, drawing, painting, ceramic and installation to explore narratives within the Marathi diaspora. Correia delves into concepts of diasporic identity such as intersectional senses of self that surge through broader, globalized contexts. Her practice practice began as a child loving bright colours and examining nature. Then she expanded into exploring thresholds, simultaneous truths, and childhood nostalgia. Her work surrounds navigating her sense of self in conversation with her relationship to the body, nature, and discovering the sacred.Examining personal and collective identity, Correia endeavours to understand and depict the complexity of labelled existence while navigating her own identity as a person of colour in the West, striving to discover how one transcends liminality to inhabit third spaces. She is devoted to sharing her practice of creating intentional, identity-rooted, and emotionally resonant works, seeking to touch hearts and cultivate love in community.
